We’re back again to celebrate Haiku Poetry Day. I asked some awesome indie authors to write haiku inspired by their books. This Japanese-inspired form of poetry with 3 lines of 5-7-5 syllables respectively is a challenge in itself, but capturing a story’s essence in a short format adds an extra level.

Tatiana Obey, author of Sistah Samurai and Bones to the Wind

Demons are roaming
Black women are dancing like

Hunting glory and dragons
Across Desert sands

Parched mouths of summer
as a silent sky demands
royal blood; too thin
Quiet!—prickle skin
The razor sharp on soft tongue
Quiet!—empty mouth

J. Patricia Anderson, author of Your Blood and Bones

Cover of Your Blood and Bones by J. Patricia Anderson
Bones grow, feathers sprout
Monstrous in our human skin

Tell me in the comments which of these haiku made you add the book to your TBR. Even better, write a haiku of your favorite book!
