Gregory Kontaxis’s debut novel, The Return of the Knights, has been lauded for its complex worldbuilding. Today is its release day, and I got the author to talk about the history of my fellow elves in the lands of Knightdorn.

Wirskworth, the regional capital of Elmor, is one of the older cities in the Kingdom of Knightdorn. It was built by the elves and their intention was to create the strongest city in the world. Through the ages, the elves had many conflicts with the giants, and they were scared of an attack on their city. The giants were always followed by the wyverns: some huge, winged, monsters with poisonous thorns in their body. The elves knew that the giants would be very dangerous riding their wyverns and decided to build a city-fortress. Wirskworth was carved in a mountain and its wall is more than ten meters tall. The city was built by moonstone, one of the strongest stones in the world.

During the Black Death Age, the giants attacked the elves for the first time in history and the black vale of death covered Wirskworth. Both giants and elves were slaughtered and many parts of Wirskworth destroyed. After the battle, the remaining elves decided to leave the ancient city—they didn’t want to reside in the place that half of their race had died. The elves travelled to Iovbridge where the elwyn welcomed them with open arms.

Then, the Age of Men began and humans crossed the Sea of Men arriving to Knightdorn. The First Kings of the humans created nine kingdoms and one of them was Elmor. King Endor took Wirskworth and his House continued to rule the city until today. The rulers of the House of Endor repaired the destroyed parts of Wirskworth through the years and created a small forest in the highest layer of the city. This forest has every known tree and flower that contains potion. Endors and their people always liked to study potions and they are known as the Poison-Masters.

During the Age of Men, the Elder Races disappeared from the kingdom. No one has seen the elwyn, the elves and the giants for decades. Even the centaurs, the wyverns and the mermaids are hidden from the world. Many legends claim that the Egercolls cursed the Elder Races to remain imprisoned in the Mountains of the Forgotten World, forever. However, no one knows with certainty the truth about the fate of the elves, the giants and the elwyn.
