As he wakes up at a campfire with a mysterious piper, the only thing Balagir can remember is his name. He’ll soon learn no one can be trusted, as the ashen will do anything for the power smoke brings.

Balagir is resourceful and tenacious. In a world of perpetual danger, his wits are his best weapon. Essential in a heavily character-centred story, he is a character you can root for.

This book is mysterious, captivating, and written elegantly without falling into purple prose. This is my first dive into GameLit, and I’m having trouble believing other works will reach this level of craftsmanship. I loved every second of it and I’m eager to keep reading this author’s work.
